Licence

The licence you get when you buy AIOS Lite, and the licences that come with the open-source parts inside it. These are two different things and it is worth keeping them separate.

Your licence to AIOS Lite

You get a perpetual, non-exclusive licence to install and use AIOS Lite on computers you own or control, for personal or business use, for as long as you like. It is tied to you, not to a machine or a drive.

Perpetual means perpetual. There is no activation server, no licence key to expire, and nothing that stops working if you never pay us again. The annual $9.99 buys continued updates, not continued permission to run the software.

What the licence does not cover

If you want to redistribute it — bundled with hardware, for example — ask us. That is a conversation, not a refusal.

The open-source parts

AIOS Lite contains software and model weights published by other people under their own licences. Nothing in our licence overrides theirs, and buying from us does not buy you any additional rights to their work. The complete list, with versions and licence terms, is on the open source notices page.

The model's output

What the model writes for you is yours. We claim no rights over it and we place no restriction on using it commercially. Note that the model can be confidently wrong, and that the responsibility for checking its output before relying on it is yours.

Attribution we are required to give

The Apache 2.0 and MIT licences covering the bundled model weights and runtime require us to carry their licence text and copyright notices. We do, in the product and on the notices page. If you spot something we have missed, tell us and we will correct it — that is a bug, not a complaint.

Questions about this page

Does the software stop working if I stop paying?
No. The licence is perpetual and there is no activation server. The yearly $9.99 buys continued updates, not continued permission to run what you already have.
Can I put it on a USB drive and give it to a friend?
No — that is redistribution, which the licence does not permit. You can install it on as many of your own machines as you like, and your friend can follow our free guide and build their own at no cost.
Can I bundle it with hardware I sell?
Possibly. Redistribution is not permitted by default, but it is a conversation worth having. Contact us with what you have in mind.
Who owns what the AI writes?
You do. We claim no rights over the model's output and place no restriction on using it commercially.
